Case Study: Can Light Replacement

Attic Insulation DFW BACKS THE BLUE! So when one of Denton’s Finest, Detective Wallace, inquired about solving cooling problems in her home, we jumped at the opportunity to serve a Hero who has spent her life serving others!

She contacted us to schedule a free onsite estimate for additional attic insulation and was considering radiant barrier and adding attic ventilation as well. During our consultation, she shared with us the symptoms she was having in her home:

• Rooms not cooling evenly.
• Hot spots and cool spots throughout the home.
• Bedrooms that stayed so warm that they were unbearable to sleep in at night. Meanwhile, other parts of the house were cool.

After listening to her concerns, we set out to find what was causing these issues. We inspected the attic’s insulation and ventilation and determined she only needed additional insulation installed. Throughout the attic there were varying levels of insulation from zero insulation to 14 inches of insulation and everything in between. The worst spots that had zero insulation were around 6 can lights and a 100 ft.² area where the Sheetrock had been replaced due to water damage from the water heater but no insulation was put back in after the Sheetrock was replaced. The improvements we suggested were:

1. Replace the 6 old leaky inefficient can lights with air sealed energy efficient LED can lights.
2. Bring the entire attic up to the energy efficiency recommendation of 18.5”(R49).
